To further international collaboration, the Foundation has organized international conferences on differentiation therapy designed to bring together investigators from around the world in an effort to communicate their findings for the benefit of the entire scientific community. These conferences are a major forum for the exploration of the newest developments in differentiation therapy.
All Foundation supported research programs are reviewed annually. The review is conducted by an independent, external committee of eminent scientists who critique the research and assess the merits of the work for further funding, as well as the demonstration of collaboration.
It is the Foundation's hope that the groundbreaking work conducted with its support will lead to site-specific treatments for all cancers, and will ultimately contribute to the prevention and cure of the disease by blocking the spread of cancer.
ver the years, the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation has supported and trained more than 160 scientists by awarding over $55 million in grants, and has been instrumental in developing new drugs to successfully treat cancer. Based at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, one of the world's preeminent teaching hospitals, the Foundation funds highly collaborative basic, translational and clinical research groups throughout the United States, Canada, China, Europe and Israel. Applicants for funding must be proven investigators who are approved by and receive funding from the National Institutes of Health and who agree to collaborate with other investigators on all research projects funded by the Foundation.
