This is Sandra Wechsler’s first marathon. She’s running in memory of her grandmother, who died of breast cancer, and the too many other friends who have been affected by or died of cancer. She’s honored to run with Team Waxman in the hopes that aggressive research will produce a cure in her lifetime.
Raised in Santa Fe, N.M., Sandra has spent the last two decades working to further progressive issues by helping to elect candidates and advocating for good policies. Her professional experience includes campaign management, impact evaluation, and leadership development, both nationally and locally. Before starting her own consulting business, Sandra spent years navigating the world of nonprofits, community organizing and violence prevention. Sandra received her B.A. in Social Thought and Political Economy from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and her Masters in Public Health from the University of New Mexico. She also has a dog named Omar, named after her favorite character from the HBO television show, The Wire.
