The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCRF) had a major presence at Cantor Fitzgerald’s annual Charity Day fundraiser featuring celebrities who visit the company’s trading floor on September 11 to raise funds for charities worldwide in memory of the Cantor Fitzgerald and Eurobroker employees who perished during the World Trade Center attacks on 9/11. The SWCRF was represented by two ambassadors: journalist Geraldo Rivera and TV personality, author and entrepreneur Jill Zarin. Cantor Fitzgerald, together with its affiliate BGC Partners, Inc., announced that it raised approximately $12 million that will be shared by dozens of nonprofit organizations, including the SWCRF. Each year, Cantor Fitzgerald and BGC Partners donate 100 percent of the global revenues generated on Charity Day to the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund, and to date has raised approximately $125 million globally since its inception.

Dr. Samuel Waxman, founder and CEO of The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation, was on hand to tour the trading floor and greet Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund co-founder, President and Executive Director Edie Lutnick, Cantor Fitzgerald & Co. Chief Executive Officer Shawn P. Matthews, and employees of the company. Cantor Fitzgerald is a longtime supporter of the SWCRF.
“We are honored to be a beneficiary of this year’s Charity Day, which transformed a day of tragedy for Cantor Fitzgerald 14 years ago into a day to celebrate philanthropy,” said Dr. Waxman. “We thank and congratulate Edie Lutnick, Howard Lutnick, Shawn Matthews and their team for all they do make a positive difference in the world through this amazing tradition. We also thank our ambassadors Geraldo Rivera and Jill Zarin for their help in raising funds for our funded cancer research programs at Charity Day.”

Among the boldfaced names that Rivera encountered during his visit to the Cantor Fitzgerald trading floors were actor Steve Buscemi, former New York Rangers player Mark Messier, singer-actress Vanessa Williams and rap star 50 Cent. Also spotted at the Cantor Fitzgerald offices was former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Good Morning America host Robin Roberts, model Lily Aldridge and “Top Chef” host and producer Padma Lakshmi, among others.
About Charity Day and the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund
Every year, Cantor Fitzgerald and BGC Partners, in conjunction with the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund, commemorate our 658 Cantor and 61 Eurobrokers employees who perished on September 11, 2001 by distributing 100% of our global revenues on Charity Day to the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund and dozens of charities around the world. The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund, initially created to assist families of Cantor employees who were lost on 9/11, has since broadened its mission to provide aid to victims of terrorism, natural disasters, emergencies, direct service charities and wounded members of the military.
Charity Day is our way of turning a tragic day into one that is positive and uplifting by helping others. We invite celebrity guests who represent participating charities into our offices to conduct trades with licensed brokers and their clients. To date, Charity Day has raised approximately $125 million for charitable causes around the world, and since its inception the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund has raised and distributed over $280 million.
