14th Annual Collaborating for a Cure Benefit Dinner & Auction Raises Nearly $3.2 Million

New York City—About 1,100 guests arrived at the Park Avenue Armory on Thursday, Nov. 17, to help raise money for the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation. The event, hosted by Elin and Michael Nierenberg, raised nearly $3.2 million.

Charitybuzz led the silent auction while auctioneer Courtney Booth of Sotheby's helped raise the level of energy in the room during the live bidding portion of the evening. Some of the most popular lots of the night included five nights in the Caribbean aboard a luxury private yacht, which sold for $150,000, a seven-night stay for up to eight people in the Ian Fleming Villa at Goldeneye Resort, which sold for $100,000 and a week stay at a private oceanfront villa in Anguilla, which sold for $60,000.

Guests celebrated late into the night as Kid Rock performed some of his familiar hit songs as well as some covers, like "Sweet Home Alabama."

"The gala was a huge success and the money raised from the evening will go toward funding some amazing and pioneering projects in cancer research, " said board chair Michael Nierenberg. "Cancer affects everyone and the Waxman Foundation is committed to doing everything possible to help end cancer."

Gwen Darien, the Executive Director of the Waxman Foundation, agreed.

"The Foundation is able to award millions of dollars each year to support cancer research because of the generosity of our donors. Our innovative grants are helping scientists find effective therapies that will make a difference in the lives of patients worldwide."
