Chef Todd English Headlines the Hamptons Happening Event to Benefit Cancer Research

Chef English and Fashion Icon/Fashion Calendar Founder Ruth Finley To Be Honored

The 9th Annual “A Hamptons Happening,” which benefits the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (, will take place on July 27 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm at the home of Maria and Kenneth Fishel in Bridgehampton, New York. This year’s event, a highlight of the Hamptons social calendar, is called, “A Hamptons Happening Feast!” with Todd English (and friends). The annual event is a not-to-be-missed evening of food, drink, music, dancing and an impressive auction, all to raise money for cutting-edge cancer research.

This year, “A Hamptons Happening” features noteworthy names in many fields, including event honorees celebrity chef Todd English and renowned fashion figure Ruth Finley. In addition, WCBS-TV News Anchor Chris Wragge brings his infectious energy to the role of evening’s emcee. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $1 million. This summer, the SWCRF hopes to raise more than $500,000.

This year’s event does indeed promise to be a feast—with choice dishes from Chef English’s signature New York City restaurants, Olives New York, The Todd English Food Hall, and Ca Va Brasserie, as well as his Tuscany restaurant located at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, and a dessert table featuring his 19-year old daughter Isabelle’s CurlyCake cupcake creations from her shop in Beacon Hill, Boston. The event will also showcase more than 30 other chefs and restaurants. A selective of wines has been generously donated by Palm Bay International.

The Food. Known for its exquisite delicacies, “A Hamptons Happening” will spotlight unique dishes, both savory and sweet. Chef English will hold court with four of his well-known restaurants represented. Guests will sample such favorites as Chef English’s grilled oysters, Hoisin Braised Short Rib Rubbed Tenderloin, Quick Seared Scallops and Grilled Yellow Peaches, as well as other sweet treats. Other chefs and restaurants serving up delicacies at the event include Loeb Boathouse, Bareburger, SEN Sushi, Wafles & Dinges, La Churreria and Kyotofu, among others.

Renowned chef, restaurateur and television star, Chef English currently has more than 20 restaurants around the country. His first restaurant, Olives (located in Charlestown, Massachusetts, New York City, Las Vegas, Mexico City and the soon-to-open Atlantis in the Bahamas) is known for its unique rustic Mediterranean cuisine. Chef English is a four-time James Beard Award winner and has been inducted into the James Beard Foundation’s “Who’s Who in Food and Beverage in America.” He is the author of several cookbooks, including, most recently, Cooking in Everyday English, and hosts the Emmy-nominated PBS travel series, “Food Trip with Todd English.”

The Fashion.  Say the word “calendar” to anyone in fashion—and they know exactly what you’re talking about. Fashion Calendar was created by Ruth Finley more than 65 years ago. Published every other week, the calendar lists national and international fashion events—and is the go-to authority on market weeks and fashion events for designers, editors and manufacturers. As a young reporter, Ms. Finley saw a need for the calendar when she overheard complaints that two fashion shows were occurring at the same time. The calendar plays a special role during New York Fashion Week, when it lists more than 300 events. Ms. Finley has long been a champion of important charities—and the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation is one in which she has put her full support and energy.

The Guests. Every year, this elegant high-spirited event draws hundreds of attendees from a variety of industries and age ranges. The great mix of guests includes Hamptons foodies, families with children and Millenials, young professionals who come out in full force and bring their friends.

In addition to free-flowing spirits and the exciting selection of savory and sweet tastings, the event features music by DJ Theory, generously donated by Adam Alpert of 4 AM DJs, and a live and silent auction, presented by Grandstand, which features an array of appealing items for everyone.
