The Role of the IKK/NF-κB pathway in Cancer Development and Drug Resistance
Impact
We want to understand how cancer cells form and how they progress to be highly proliferative and metastatic. Additionally, we study how cancer cells are often highly resistant to radiation and chemotherapy. Based on these studies, we hope to intervene with drugs specific to the identified pathways.
Summary of Research
The transcription factor NF-κB is activated in the majority of cancers to control cell growth, cell survival, and invasion. We study, through support of the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation, the pathways through which NF-κB is activated in cancer. Our goal is to develop drugs to block these pathways and to test them in preclinical models relative to their cancer therapeutic efficacy. |
