Dr. Jeffrey Settleman

Dr. Settleman of the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center studies the gene that is the most frequently mutated in cancer, called the ras gene. Ras genes in cancer cells are stuck in the "on" position. Dr. Settleman has discovered a protein that successfully inactivates mutant ras genes and is determining if the protein can stop tumor growth. He is one of three 2002 Waxman Foundation Grant recipients.
