Merle Duskin Kailas, Executive Director
Ms. Kailas realized early in her career that for the non-profit sector to
thrive, it must employ the same management tools, strategic thinking, fiscal
policies, and governance objectives as the for-profit sector.
Honing her financial and managerial skills in the fields of management
consulting, venture capital, investment banking, fundraising, and operating
performance in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors, she now turns her
focus to fulfilling the mission of the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research
Foundation.
Ms. Kailas' most recent position before joining the Foundation was Managing
Director at Thirteen/WNET. In addition to her extensive professional
background, she was the founding Chair of the Board of the Cherry Lane
Theatre and continues on its Advisory Board. She also is a member of New
York Women in Film and Television, having served on its Board as Treasurer.
She holds a B.A. (Phi Beta Kappa, Magna cum Laude) from the State University
of New York at Buffalo and a Masters degree in Public and Private Management
from the Yale School of Management where she was the recipient of the
Laurence C. Leeds, Jr. Honor Award.
